Bethany, W.Va. – “Getting Connected!,” a volunteer and civic engagement fair, will be held on Sept. 7 in Benedum Commons on the Bethany College campus. The fair is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. and is open to all non-profit social service agencies and schools in the Upper Ohio Valley. The event is sponsored by Bethany College’s Social Awareness Club, Phi Alpha Social Work Honorary and Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity.

The purpose of the fair is to help make connections between Bethany students, clubs, fraternal organizations, and individuals in the community with service groups in the larger, surrounding communities. By bringing these groups together, it is hoped that strong relationships can be formed.

Katherine Shelek-Furbee, Professor of Social Work and Director of the Social Work Program, said, "It is an opportunity for the College community to become engaged with our local service providers and establish strong working relationships in the process. We have many clubs, fraternal organizations, faculty members and staff with an expressed interest in providing services, resources and expertise to these organizations."

Agency representatives must be present at the fair. Organizations and schools should bring written materials, including job descriptions and volunteer responsibilities, skills or talents needed, time involved, and application forms. Brochures and handouts are also helpful.

Audio visual needs will be accommodated on a first come, first serve basis, but organizations are encouraged to bring their own if possible.

Agency representatives may arrive at 4 p.m. for set-up. Tables and signs will be provided by the College. To reserve a table, please call 304-829-7182, fax 304-829-7192 or go online to Deadline for registration is Sept. 5.
