COMMUNICATION STUDENTS HELP WITH ESPN BROADCAST

BETHANY, W.Va. – Six Bethany College Communication students were part of the ESPN technical crew that helped broadcast the Thanksgiving Day college football game between West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh in Morgantown, W.Va.

The six Bethany students were Jason Brun of Bethany, W.Va., Eric Givens of Venetia, Pa., Danielle Lehman of Weirton, W.Va., Luke Luallin of Burton, W.Va., Rachel Magerko of Mt. Braddock, Pa., Alexis Rinfret of Millersburg, Ohio.

Jim Birch of Kwokman Productions, who helps coordinate game day assistance with ESPN sports broadcasts, contacted the Bethany College Communication Department for staff assistance a few days prior to the game.

Dr. Russell Cook, Professor of Communication and General Manager of TV3, personally called 18 Bethany students who had already returned home for Thanksgiving break so they could consider this opportunity. Dr. Patrick Sutherland, Communication Department Chairperson, contacted six additional students to encourage them to take advantage of this learning opportunity.

"Mr. Birch was impressed with the response of six Bethany students within 48 hours of his request for crew help. The Bethany Communication Department values our positive relations with tri-state media professionals and we're appreciative that our students are taking advantage of working in the "real world" while still attending college," Sutherland said.
