BETHANY COLLEGE PRESENTS ALLISON AWARD

BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College has awarded the 2006-2007 James Allison Award to Robert Miele and Sabrina Iqbal.6636Miele.JPG

Miele, a freshman secondary education major won first prize with his essay entitled "Advice." He is the son of Thomas and Andrea Miele of Belle Vernon Pa.

Second prize was awarded to Iqbal, for her work entitled "The Spirit of the Player, the Spirit of the Fan." The daughter of Shandid and Shahina Iqbal of Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a senior international economics major with a Spanish minor

8466Iqbal.JPGA 500-1000 word original work on "The Spirit of the Player, the Spirit of the Fan," was required for this year's competition. The two prizes awarded this year totaled $600; with $500 going to first place and $100 going to second place. The awards were in the form of gift certificates to the Bethany college bookstore.

Presented in memory of the late Jim Allison, the awards were funded by money raised through the Allion's Run. The Allison's run, a recreational, non-competitive event, has been held every year since 2001 to celebrate the life of Allison, Professor of Mathematics at Bethany and a deeply valued member of the Ohio Valley Community. A 1964 graduate of Bethany, Allison died of a heart attack in 2000.
