BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College will celebrate Women’s Month throughout the month of March with a variety of events celebrating womanhood. The events are open to Bethany students, faculty, staff and the Bethany community.

The celebration will begin Monday, March 3, with Contraceptive Education presented by West Virginia Free at 7:30 p.m. in Renner Too (Phillips Hall). 

On Wednesday, March 5, “Body Image” will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Renner Too. This event, presented by Bethany Counseling, will discuss the current body image of males and females and how it came about.

On Tuesday, March 11 and Wednesday, March 12, Bethany students will present a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. 

The production, part of the 2008 V-Day College Campaign will be held in Commencement Hall. V-Day is a global movement to raise awareness and funds for local organizations working to end violence against women and girls. The non-profit organization is in its 10th anniversary year and has raised over $50 million, with events being held in over 120 countries.

The V-Day College Campaign invites colleges and universities to join the cause. One of the goals of the College Campaign is to empower young people – the leaders, shapers and messengers of the future. 

The production will begin at 6:30 p.m. and donations are requested for admission, $2 per person, with all proceeds going to the Wheeling YWCA and the national V-Day Campaign. 

The “Celebrate Women!” Reception and Open Mic will be held on Wednesday, March 26 to recognize and honor the well-respected women of Bethany. The night will feature various acts performed by Bethany students. The event will be held in Renner Too at 7 p.m. 

To conclude Women’s History month, the “Touch Yourself” Breast Self-Exam Program, presented by Bethany College Health Services, will be held on Monday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in Phillips Lounge.
