BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College alumnus Jeff Flick ’82, president and CEO of BD&E in Pittsburgh, will be honored during the Alumni Weekend Awards Reception on May 4 with the 2013 Alumnus of the Year Award.
The award was established by the Office of the President to recognize alumni who have demonstrated loyalty to the college and exceptional achievement throughout their lives, both professionally and in service to the community.
Nominees for the award are screened by the director of alumni and parent relations and the President’s Cabinet, and recipients are chosen by the president of the college.
“Jeff has spent his career dedicated to his craft and has become a prominent leader in his field,” said Bethany College President Scott D. Miller. “He possesses extraordinary talent which he has graciously shared with his alma mater. Jeff has always demonstrated his love for Bethany College whenever and wherever possible and I am honored to have the opportunity to recognize him with this award.”
As a cum laude graduate of Bethany College, Flick holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications with a concentration in graphic design. In addition, he has taken post-graduate course work at Rochester Institute of Technology and earned the professional designation of Certified Business Communicator from the International Business Marketing Association.
Through his company’s collaborative work with Bethany College, the college has received seven awards over the last five years in the annual Admissions Advertising Awards, including four Gold Medal Awards. Sponsored by Admissions Marketing Report, the Admissions Advertising Awards is the largest educational advertising awards competition in the country. It is an elite program designed to recognize today’s most talented educational marketing professionals for outstanding excellence in all forms of advertising, marketing and promotion.
Flick has worked in the marketing communications field for the past 30 years. He has been the project manager for comprehensive branding, identity and marketing communications programs for a variety of publicly-traded corporations ranging from PPG Industries – a Fortune 200 corporation with $15 billion in annual revenue – to Federated Investors, a financial services company with more than $400 billion in assets under management. He has even been involved with relatively young corporations such as ANSYS, a $260 million engineering simulation software company.
In addition, Flick has been the senior consultant responsible for development and implementation of comprehensive branding strategies at nearly 30 colleges, universities and large non-profit organizations located throughout the United States.
He has lectured on branding, corporate identity and graphic design for both graduate and undergraduate programs at Bethany College, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Duquesne University, Geneva College, La Roche College, Point Park University, Robert Morris University, University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University.
Flick is the vice chairman of the board of trustees for the Watson Institute and a member of the board of trustees for the Sports Legacy Foundation. He has served on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Business Marketing Association.
