Workshop on New Testament to be Held at Bethany’s Buffalo Seminary

BETHANY, W.Va. — Dr. Bonnie Thurston, a poet, scholar, minister, anchorite and a former member of the Board of Trustees at Bethany College, will present “The Lord’s Supper in the New Testament: Text and Theology in Practical Context” during a two-day workshop Oct. 28 and 29 at Mountainside Conference Center in Bethany. The event, which is $35, is from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days, and includes lunches.

The workshop will focus on the nature of the sacrament and will test what is remembered about the Lord’s Supper in the New Testament. Workshop attendees will undertake a textual comparison of the Synoptic Gospel accounts and Paul’s “Word of Institution” in 1 Cor 11: 23-26. Three theological and pastoral matters connected with the Eucharist will also be discussed, including ritual action, table fellowship, and the meaning of time at the Table.

The seminar will include the opportunity for questions and discussion and is of special interest to clergy, Elders and students of the Bible. Attendees are asked to bring their own Bible.
