Bethany President Speaker/Panelist at The Registry of College and University Presidents Annual Meeting

San Diego, California – Dr. Scott D. Miller, President of Bethany College, was a speaker/panelist on higher education employment trends and issues at the annual meeting of The Registry of College and University Presidents in San Diego Saturday.

Dr. Miller, along with George Matthews, Chancellor of TRCUP, Bryan Carlson, President of TRCUP, and Jessica Kozloff, President of Academic Search, Inc., discussed “Personnel Solutions for the Academy – Talent and More Talent.”  Bethany’s President is also Chair of the Board of Directors of Academic Search.

Dr. Miller spoke of the September strategic partnership between Academic Search, Inc. (based in Washington, D.C.) and The Registry for College and University Presidents (Boston) to expand services to American higher education.  As two of higher education's oldest and most experienced search and placement firms, Academic Search and the Registry are a natural match, he noted. The panel addressed trends and issues in higher education and creative solutions to pressing problems for colleges and universities.

“We recognize that the challenges in higher education require a new alignment of services, and believe our partnership will provide a seamless transition from an interim appointment to a permanent placement,” Dr. Miller noted,  “offering those we serve cost savings, efficiencies of scale and close collaboration between our two organizations.”

Drs. Miller and Kozloff also spoke about the programs of The American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI), the umbrella organization of Academic Search.  Also headquartered in Washington, DC, AALI is a non-profit organization which works to strengthen academic leadership in all sectors of public and private higher education.  AALI and its predecessor organizations have participated in the advancement of higher education for over 30 years.

They said that AALI provides leadership identification, development, and support programs across all sectors of public and private higher education.  AALI also sponsors seminars and workshops; supports higher education research and publication; and consults with collegiate trustees and administrators, higher education researchers, and others on a wide range of topics related to leadership development, leadership support, and the successful administration of colleges and universities. Through national and regional conferences as well as consultation with individual campuses, academic leaders, and boards of trustees, AALI focuses on traditional and emerging issues facing higher education and its governance.

Currently in his seventh year as president of West Virginia's oldest degree-granting institution, Dr. Miller has been a higher education leader for over 30 years.  In addition to his service at Bethany, Dr. Miller served as president of Wesley College in Delaware and Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.  He is in his 24th year as a college president.

He has written hundreds of articles and written or edited 11 books, most with his long-time co-author, Dr. Marylouise Fennell, a former college president and current senior counsel for the Washington, DC-based Council of Independent Colleges (CIC).

A highly sought presenter, mentor, and author on higher education topics including financial sustainability and presidential performance for national conferences and trade journals, Dr. Miller is a regular columnist for "The Huffington Post," "College Planning and Management," "Enrollment Manager," and "The State Journal." He is the co-executive editor of "Presidential Perspectives," an online presidential thought series that has resulted in nine books. In 2005, the American Council on Education book, “The Entrepreneurial College President,” recognized him as one of the 17 most entrepreneurial college presidents in America.

Academic Search, Inc., founded in 1976, is a subsidiary of the American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI), a nonprofit organization that supports leadership identification, development, research, and support programs across all sectors of public and private higher education. All profits from Academic Search, Inc. support AALI’s leadership development programs.

The Registry for College and University Presidents is a subsidiary of Collegiate Enterprise Solutions, LLC. The Registry is not a search firm, but instead is an interim placement firm with over 550 prequalified, Veteran members positioned for immediate service at colleges and universities throughout the nation and abroad.
