Annual Honors Banquet

In the spring of each year the Social Work Department and Social Awareness Club host an Honors Banquet to recognize the academic and service efforts of students in the major. A catered meal is followed by an honors award ceremony and a featured speaker. Faculty, staff, students, family members and alumni attend the event.

Field instructors, Bethany College staff members, and members of the community who have provided outstanding support for the program are also recognized and honored.
A list and brief description of each award follows:

Overall Awards

The Faithful Angel Award recognizes a social work major that has helped advance the social work profession within the Social Work program, Bethany college/community, and/or their home community through their own efforts.
The Outstanding Service Project award recognizes the social work major who has completed the most service hours over the course of the academic year and/or who has developed and completed a service project that has made a significant impact on the lives of those served.

Sophomore Awards

The Sophomore Student of the Year award recognizes a student in the sophomore class who has excelled in overall accomplishments in the social work curriculum, in the community, and at Bethany College. 
The First Admission to Social Work award recognizes the first student in the sophomore class who has completed the application to the program process and has been successfully admitted to the program.

Junior Awards

The Junior Student of the Year award recognizes a student in the junior class who has excelled in overall accomplishments in the social work curriculum, in the community, and at Bethany College.
The Outstanding Performance in Junior Field Placement award recognizes the junior social work major who has exceeded expectations in performance and attitude in one or both of the junior field experiences.

 Senior Awards

The Senior Fellow award recognizes the efforts of the department’s Senior Fellow. The Senior Fellow is nominated by the Social work program and appointed by the Faculty Honors Committee. Juniors who are interested may apply to be a senior fellow.
The Senior Student of the Year award recognizes a student in the senior class who has excelled in overall accomplishments in the social work curriculum, in the community, and at Bethany College.
The Outstanding Performance While in Field Placement award recognizes the senior whose performance in the field placement received exceptional notice from the field instructor.
The Outstanding Senior Project award recognizes the senior who has produced a senior project that is well developed and applies research theory to social work practice.

Social Awareness Club

The Social Awareness Club President award recognizes the President of the Social Awareness Club in honor of all of their efforts on behalf of the club during the past year.
The Social Awareness Club Member of the Year award recognizes the most involved member of the Social Awareness Club.

Most Likely to Awards

 The Most Likely To awards were developed by social work majors as a way to honor, recognize, and celebrate the uniqueness of each other.

Other Awards

The Field Instructor of the Year award recognizes the Field Instructor who has provided outstanding and unwavering support to the Social Work Program through the provision of field instruction and other types of support.
The Staff Member of the Year award recognizes a staff member who has gone above and beyond what was requested in support of Social Work Program activities.
The Community Member of the Year award recognizes a member of the town of Bethany who has provided outstanding support for or participated in the Social Work Program’s fundraising and service efforts.

 The Social Work Program also recognizes student efforts at the annual, college-wide, Honors Day event, held on the third Thursday of each April. Descriptions and criteria for these awards is located in the social work student lounge in Morlan Hall.

Senior Class

The Lester N and Helen W Frantz Award for Outstanding Achievement in Social Work recognizes a senior who has an active membership in NASW, above average GPA in the major and has demonstrated significant accomplishment in field placements and service work.

Junior Class

The Lynn Frantz Adkins Award for Outstanding Involvement in Social Work recognizes a junior who has demonstrated above average performance in classroom and field work and who has provided significant service to peers within the program.
