Feb. 25 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Bethany basketball seniors Leslie Addy (Columbia, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Taylor Verrico (Monaca, Pa./Quigley) have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week, announced the Bethany SAAC on Tuesday.
Addy, who was also named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, made the most of his final two regular-season games for the Bison, shooting a combined 50 percent (11-of-22) from the floor. He averaged a double-double with 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while adding 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a pair of home victories. In Bethany’s 80-77 win over Thomas More on Feb. 19, Addy totaled 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. He registered his fifth double-double of the season in Saturday’s 72-69 win against W&J, totaling 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Addy finished the 2013-14 regular season campaign averaging 11.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. An efficient scorer, Addy shot 46.9 percent from the field and ranked fifth in the PAC in three-point percentage (.441). He also ranked in the top ten in the conference in steals per game, blocked shots per game, and offensive rebounds per contest.
Verrico wrapped her regular season career in style, averaging 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over the two-game stretch. In a loss to #4 Thomas More, Verrico was able to drop a team-high 18 points, while corralling five rebounds. She was extremely efficient from the field, knocking down 6-of-9 attempts, including two triples. In a defeat to Washington & Jefferson, Verrico finished her last home game as a Bison in fashion, notching her seventh double-double of the season (19 points & 12 rebounds).
Verrico had a solid regular season campaign for the Bison, averaging 13.2 points and a career-high 7.2 rebounds per contest. Over the course of the season, she registered a team-best seven double-doubles and scored in double figures in 19 of the team’s 25 games.
Other nominees for SAAC Athlete of the Week included sophomore track and field standout Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) and senior men’s lacrosse goalie C.J. Studnicky (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) on the men’s side, and senior track athlete Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) for the women.
