Oct. 15 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Junior Marina Baker (Winchester, Va./Sherando) and Senior Lamine Balde (Guinea, West Africa/William L. Sayre) have been named the Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SAAC) Athletes of the Week for the week of October 7-13, announced the SAAC on Tuesday afternoon.
Baker, a member of the Bethany women’s swimming and diving team earned her first Athlete of the Week honor following the Bison’s 116-68 victory over Penn State – Altoona in their first competition of the season on Saturday.
Individually, Baker, already a holder of seven Bethany records, won the 200 Individual Medley (2:24.61), the 100-yard freestyle (57.01) and was also the lead leg on the 400 freestyle relay team that took first place (4:03.88) by 39 seconds.
Balde scored the lone goal for the Bison in a 1-1 tie with Westminster College. With the Bison down 1-0 in the 58th minute, Blade capitalized on a loose ball in the box for his sixth goal of the season to knot the game and help the Bison earn the tie in double overtime.
On the season, Balde ranks second on the team in goals with six. He has also notched three assists on the season and has scored 15 points, both which also rank second on the roster. His 26 shots on goal and is .553 shots on goal percentage both rank first.
Other players nominated for SAAC Athlete of the Week included freshman volleyball player, Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) and freshman swimmer Christine Pray (Canton, Ohio/Canton) on the women’s side; and sophomore Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and freshman swimmer Jake Collas (South Park, Pa./South Park) on the men’s side.
