Dec. 6 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Sophomore wide receiver Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) and junior women’s swimming and diving standout Marina Baker (Winchester, Va./Sherando) have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Month for the month of November, the Bethany SAAC announced on Friday.
Blinn totaled 44 catches for 615 yards and seven touchdowns over the final five games of the season. In the final half of the year, he broke 140+ yards three times and caught at least one TD in three of the five contests. He recorded a season and career high 267 yards receiving and four touchdowns against Saint Vincent on Nov. 16.
It was a banner year for Blinn, who earned First-Team All-PAC honors following his sophomore campaign. Blinn finished the year with 95 receptions for 1,300 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. His catches and receiving yardage totals both ranked in the top five in all of Division III at the conclusion of the regular season. He also set four Bethany records, including two single-game marks (receptions and touchdown catches) and two single-season records (receiving yards and receptions).
Baker has been impressive for the Bison through their first eight competitions. So far this season, Baker has helped the women's swimming and diving team to a 7-1 record. Individually, Baker has never lost, touching first in all 18 of her individual swims. She has competed in six different events, including the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, as well as the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.
Baker currently holds or is part of 12 Bethany records, including having the top times in Bison history in the 50 (25.18), 100 (54.99) and 200 (2:00.49) freestyle; 100 (1:11.38) and 200 (2:39.50) breaststroke; and the 200 (2:19.29) and 400 (4:57.73) individual medleys. She has also been a part of five different relay teams that currently hold school records.
Other nominees for Athletes of the Month for the men included: junior Stephen Amic (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and sophomore Jarrett Rahymes (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County) from the football team; senior Lamine Balde (Guinea, West Africa/William L. Sayre) from the men’s soccer program; and freshman cross country athlete Wesley Scott (Kingwood, W. Va./Preston).
On the women’s side, other nominees included: freshman Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) and junior Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) from the volleyball team; freshman Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) from the women’s soccer program; and junior Rhianna Petrone (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) from the women’s cross country team.
