Jan. 21 - BETHANY, W. Va. - Bethany basketball standouts, senior Kevin Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook) and sophomore Gabrielle Naples (Salem, Ohio/South Range) have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Athletes of the Week, announced the Bethany SAAC on Tuesday.
Jackson helped the Bison to a 2-0 week, leading all scorers in wins over Muskingum (85-62) and W&J (66-64). Against the Muskies, Jackson notched a game-high 17 points while shooting five-of-nine from the field and three-of-three from three-point range. He also added five rebounds. Against the Presidents, Jackson was at it again, notching a career-best 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Over the two contests, Jackson shot 68 percent from the field and 75 percent from beyond the arc, averaging 20 points per game.
Through 16 games this season, Jackson currently ranks second on the team, and 12th in the conference in points per game (13.4) while averaging 6.8 rebounds per contest. His 53 percent shooting from the field is the best on the team, and also ranks him fourth in the PAC. Jackson has notched double figures in all but two games this season, and has also posted three double-doubles on the year.
Naples had an outstanding week for the women's basketball team. In their win over Chatham (70-56), she scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds. Against Washington & Jefferson, Naples notched a team-high 17 points. For the week, she averaged 15 points and three rebounds per game. She shot nine-of-17 (.529) from the field, including three-of-six (.500) from behind the arc. Naples also displayed a fine touch from the charity stripe, converting on nine of the 10 shots she took (.900).
This season, Naples is averaging 10.6 points per contest, but leads the Bison in points per game against conference opponents (12.6). She has notched double-digits in the scoring column in seven of her last eight games, which included a season-high 24 points at Thiel two weeks ago.
Other nominees for the SAAC Athletes of the Week included swimming and diving athletes, freshman Jacob Collas (South Park, Pa./South Park) and sophomore Alexi Pyles (Los Angeles, Calif./Granada Hills Charter), as well as track athletes, sophomores Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) and Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac).
