Oct. 8 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Juniors, volleyball player Lynsie Mandt, and football player Phil Acrie (Pittsburgh, Pa./Linsley) have been named the Bethany College Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s Players of the Week, announced the committee on Tuesday afternoon.
Mandt had arguably her best week of the season in three key conference matches...in a 3-1 win over Westminster, Mandt totaled 8 kills and 13 digs...in a sweep over Geneva, Mandt posted 14 kills while committing just two errors in 28 attempts (.429 hitting percentage)...she then followed that performance with a 17-kill, 15-dig game against Thomas More...her first double-double of the season...Mandt finished the week with a .312 hitting percentage, totaling 39 kills and added 36 digs.
So far this season, Mandt currently ranks second on the team in total kills with 159 and ranks third on the team in both digs (163) and total blocks (30).
Acrie earned the men’s Player of the Week award as he helped the Bison end a thirty-game losing streak to the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson with a 24-19 victory on Saturday. In the game, Acrie total 200 yards, gaining 126 on just 18 carries on the ground, while catching five passes for 74 yards. Acrie also scored twice in the game.
On the year, Acrie leads the Bison with 306 total yards on the ground on just 49 carries. He is averaging 6.2 yards per attempt in that span as well. Acrie also ranks second on the team in total touchdowns scored with four on the year. The contest against W&J marked the second 100-yard performance for Acrie (ran for 101 at Geneva on Sept. 14.)
The Athlete of the week awards are nominated by the Sports Information department and voted on by the members of SAAC. Other nominees included sophomore cross country standout Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), women’s soccer goalie Chyanne McQuain (Fairmont, W. Va./East Fairmont) and junior volleyball player Breana Harris (Severn , Md./Old Mill). New players of the week will be announced on Tuesday of every week.
