Nov. 5 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Bethany College freshman volleyball player, Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) and junior football special teamer, Stephen Amic (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) have been named the Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week announced the SAAC on Tuesday.
McKenzie was the most consistent hitter for the Bison last week as she totaled 29 kills while hitting .375. She totaled a game-high, 13 kills in a 3-0 rout of Thomas More and followed that with a 16 kill performance (.400) in a 3-1 loss to Geneva. Her performance this season helped the Bison to the number one overall seed in the PAC Championship Tournament and a 17-1 record in conference play.
McKenzie is currently second on the team in total kills with 284, which also ranks her fifth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. She also ranks first among all freshmen in the conference in kills per game, collecting 2.43 in 117 games.
Amic was arguably the biggest weapon for the Bison in the team’s 30-28 loss vs. Thiel. Amic had eight punts on the day and averaged 47.5 yards per punt. He also pinned the Tomcats deep in their own territory all day, dropping five punts inside the 20 yard line, and two of those inside the five. He had a long punt of the day of 62 yards.
A Second-Team All-PAC selection last season, Amic has currently punted the ball 38 times for a total of 1,357 yards for a PAC leading total, 38.8 yards per punt.
Other nominees for the SAAC Athletes of the Week included women’s soccer freshman Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and women’s swimming and diving senior Kayla Spinelli (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) on the women’s side; and men’s soccer senior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and men’s swimming and diving sophomore Brandon Martell (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) for the men.
