Ryan Meier/Ashlee Brill Earn SAAC Athletes of the Week

March 25 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Bison baseball pitcher, junior Ryan Meier (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and softball standout, sophomore Ashlee Brill (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster), have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week, announced the Bethany SAAC on Tuesday.

Meier earned his second win of the season with a 4-0 complete game shutout of Muskingum on March 27. The junior surrendered only three hits over seven innings of work, fanning three Muskie batters while not allowing a free pass.

So far this season, Meier ranks fourth in the PAC in opponents’ batting average (.204) and fifth in earned run average (2.55). He also ranks in the top ten in the conference in innings pitched (24.2), hits allowed (19), and earned runs allowed (7). With the honor, Meier has now earned two of the four PAC Pitcher of the Week awards so far this season.

Brill hit .538 (7-of-13) and posted an on-base percentage of .571 to help the Bison finish their week 2-2. The sophomore totaled eight RBIs, four runs scored and a pair of doubles, collecting at least one hit in each of Bethany's four games. In Bethany's 23-1 five-inning win over Penn State Fayette on March 24, Brill finished three-for-four at the plate with four RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.

So far this season, Brill leads the Bison in most major offensive categories including batting average (.371) and hits (13). Brill also ranks first on the team in RBI (9), and is tied for first in stolen bases (2).  

Other nominees on the men’s side included, track & field athlete, sophomore Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), senior outfielder Dylan Wassel (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and lacrosse stand out, sophomore Grant Delaney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster). Others for the women included track & field sprinter, sophomore Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac).
