Feb. 11 - BETHANY, W. Va. – Bethany women’s basketball sophomore forward Sami Schott (Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah) and sophomore track athlete Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Athletes of the Week, announced the Bethany SAAC on Tuesday.
Schott, who was recently named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Player of the Week, had arguably her best two-game stretch of the season, averaging 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists in a pair of league victories for the Bison last week. In Bethany's 85-78 win at Westminster on Feb. 5, Schott scored a game-high 18 points, corralled five rebounds and chipped in with two assists and a steal. She continued her steady play in a 78-61 home win over Thiel on Feb. 8, tallying her fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 17 rebounds and a game-high 18 points. She finished the week knocking down 61.9 percent (13-of-21) of her attempts from the field and converted on 9-of-11 attempts (81.8%) from the charity stripe.
Schott is having an impressive year thus far, leading the team in rebounds (7.5) and ranking second in scoring per contest (11.1). She has also made an impact on the defensive side of the floor, ranking second on the team in blocks and fourth in steals.
Minger had a great showing in the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by the University of Mount Union on Feb. 8. His day consisted of a first-place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.03, while he finished fifth in a field of 25 competitors in the 200 meter dash (23.43).
On the year thus far, Minger has not disappointed, finishing in the top ten in all of his events, including an impressive undefeated record in the 400 meter dash.
Other nominees for the SAAC Athletes of the Week included men’s basketball player, junior Delonte’ Joyce (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), as well as track & field athlete, sophomore Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac).
