Bison Defeat Hiram In Dramatic Fashion

March 15 – HIRAM, Ohio. – Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) scored the game-winning goal with 1:20 left for the Bison, as the Bethany Lacrosse team (3-3) captured their third-straight win, defeating Hiram College 10-9 on Saturday afternoon.

The first period opened up with a goal coming from Hiram’s Dougles Regris, as he found the back of the net just one minute into the contest.

The Bison would respond quickly, tying the game at 1-1 after Holland found Grant Delaney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) for a goal with 9:50 remaining in the first period.

The Terriers would reclaim the lead (2-1) at the 3:19 mark, when Regris scored his second goal of the game.

Bethany would close the period strong, however, receiving goals from Delaney and Travis Granich (Huntington, W.Va./Huntington) to take a 3-2 advantage after one frame.

Just 30 seconds into the second period, Granich would score his second goal of the day on a pass from Holland, pushing the Bison advantage to 4-2.

After Hiram notched a goal to cut the Bison lead to one (4-3), Granich would register his third goal of the contest at the 7:15 mark, to extend the Bison lead back out to 5-3.

Granich would continue his fantastic first half, scoring his fourth goal of the game with 4:23 remaining in the first half, giving the Bison a 6-3 lead.

Bethany would enter intermission leading by the same score (6-3), receiving all of their goals from Granich (4) and Delaney (2).

The third period opened with the Bison taking a four-goal lead (7-3), after Holland registered his fourth assist of the game, finding Dylan Radwanski (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) with 11:49 remaining.

Holland would then notch his first goal of the game just two minutes later to put the Bison up 8-3.

After the Terriers scored to cut the Bison lead to four goals (8-4), Holland would tally his second goal of the contest to push the lead back out to five goals (9-4).

Hiram would not wilt, however, closing out the third period by scoring two goals to cut the Bison advantage to three (9-6).

The fourth period gave the fans their moneys worth, as the Terriers would score three consecutive goals over a 12-minute span to tie the game at 9-9.

The Bison would not succumb to the pressure, however, as Holland scored the game-winning goal on a pass from Granich with 1:20 remaining in the game.

Bethany would then hold off the Terriers playing defense with a man-down for the last 30 seconds to capture the 10-9 triumph. Goalie C.J. Studnicky (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) would make his biggest save of the afternoon with eight seconds remaining, to preserve the Bethany win. 

Offensively, the Bison were led by Granich, Holland and Delaney. Granich registered five points, including a team-high four goals and one assist. Holland, who scored the game-winning goal, totaled three goals and four assists. Delaney added two goals and one assist.

Dominic Halstead (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and Brendan Wessells (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) were impressive on the defensive end for the Bison, each notching five ground balls apiece.

Bethany will hit the field next on Sunday, when they play host to the Scots of Alma College. Game time is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
