April, 9 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Bethany College men’s tennis team captured their second conference victory of the season, rolling past Thiel College by a score of 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bison swept through doubles play, dropping just four sets, combined. The No. 3 doubles team of Marcus Hooks (Stamford, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Dylan Schooley (Washington, Pa./Trinity) earned an 8-0 victory over Cody McClelland and Trevor Martin. Both the No. 1 doubles team of David Camacho (Harlingen, Texas/Tuloso-Midway) and James Peterson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain), as well as the No. 2 doubles duo of Jared Roque (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Kyle Booker (Forest Park, Ga./Forest Park), each won by an 8-2 score.
In singles action, Schooley once again dominated, winning at No. 6 singles for the second time in a row. He defeated Martin 6-0, 6-0 for his third singles win of the season. Roque also swept his singles opponent, defeating Jon Fennick at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0).
Booker moved to 5-4 in singles play this year, dropping just two sets in his No. 4 singles win over Justin Mayhugh (6-0, 6-2) while Hooks defeated McClelland 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles while Peterson captured a No. 2 singles victory over Danny Dawson (6-1, 6-3). Camacho scored his second singles win of the year at No. 1, defeating Zach Kubec 6-4, 6-3.
The victory for the Bison marked their first sweep of a conference opponent since March 30 of 2011 when Bethany took down the Tomcats by the same score.
The Bison will be back in action on Friday, April 11 when they play host to Thomas More College. The contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
