March 10 – INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Bethany College track & field standout, sophomore Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) has earned a spot in the National Collegiate Athletic Association III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the triple jump, announced the NCAA Thursday.
Moore has had a fabulous indoor season for the Bison, finishing top-three in the triple jump five times, including a record-setting performance at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. He also performed at a high level when competing in the long jump, grabbing fourth place or better in all five meets.
Still needing to qualify for a spot in NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field Championships, Moore would have one last shot at the Columbia Indoor Last Chance Qualifier and he wouldn’t disappoint. On his last attempt, Moore would register a leap of 47’ 4 ½”, which would give him the 13th best jump in the nation.
"Umar is such a great jumper with his back against the wall,” remarked head coach Andy Upton. “He knew that he had one jump remaining to get the mark he needed and like he has done all season, he came through.”
Moore is no stranger to the big-time stage as last year as a freshman, he was able to compete in the NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the long jump. Coming away finishing 15th overall, Coach Upton feels that Moore has definitely had a different mindset this year saying, “Last season he was just excited to get to the championships, but coming into this year he has been calm and focused on the task at hand.”
Moore will get his chance to show his skills one more time when he competes in the NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held on March 14-15 in Lincoln, Neb.
