BETHANY’S MCCORMICK EARNS PAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK LAURELS
Feb. 2 - BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany senior Kaitlyn McCormick (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) has been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 2.
The 5-7 guard paced the Bison (9-10, 4-5) to a pair of victories last week. In Wednesday’s 69-56 triumph at Waynesburg, she tallied 12 points and five rebounds to help the Green and White avenge a loss earlier in the season to the Yellow Jackets.
McCormick pulled out a big offensive effort to help Bethany roll to an 81-60 victory over Geneva Saturday. She went 9-for-11 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from the arc, on her way to a game-high 20 points. McCormick, who also hauled down seven rebounds, erupted for eight consecutive points to help BC extend a 13-point second half lead to 21 and the Green and White cruised to the victory.
In the two games, McCormick averaged 16 points and six rebounds while shooting 64 percent (14-22) from the field. For the year, she is Bethany’s leading scorer with 10.1 points per game and is shooting 41.4 percent from the field. In addition, McCormick is second on the team in steals (1.9), ranks third in assists (1.5) and is fifth in rebounding (4.2).
“This is great for Kat to earn this award, especially as a senior who has been through a lot in her career,” said Bison head coach Rebecca Upton. “She can knock down a three or get to the rim, which makes her very difficult to guard for the other team. And she brings a lot of energy to the floor, which creates offensive opportunities for herself and her teammates.”
A pre-physical therapy major, Kaitlyn is the daughter of Constance Bitzer and Tim McCormick of Wheeling, W.Va.
