Dec. 14 - WEXFORD, Pa. – Bethany sophomore Renee Shepherd (New Martinsville, W.Va./Magnolia) has been selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 14.
The 5-9 forward averaged 13.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and two steals in a pair of Bison victories last week. In a 68-55 triumph over Pitt-Bradford, Shepherd set career-highs with 19 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the arc and 13 rebounds and also made three steals. The five three-pointers were the most by a BC player in more than two years.
Then on Saturday, she helped the Green and White claim a 60-55 win over Geneva by recording eight points and resetting her personal-best with 14 boards. For the week, she was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.
The big week by Shepherd, who is third on the team in scoring (10.4), helped her jump to third in the PAC in rebounding with 8.0 boards per game and three-point percentage at 45.5 (10-22). She is also ranked 12th in the league in free throw percentage (73.5) and steals (1.75).
“Renee is starting to get into a little bit of a rhythm,” said Bethany head coach Rebecca Upton. “She is a tough kid who plays hard for 40 minutes. Being our main returning starter from last year, we are relying on her to be a leader on the floor, both vocally and in production, and she is really taking charge of that role.”
A chemistry major, Renee is the daughter of Tim and Carmen Shepherd of New Martinsville, W.Va.
