Nov. 19 - WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Bethany College women’s basketball team suffered an 84-62 loss to Denison Friday on the first night of the Washington & Jefferson Classic, which evened the Bison’s record at 1-1.

Although the team shot similar percentages in the opening half, with BC hitting 40.7 (11-27) and the Big Red (2-0) making 43.8 percent (14-32), Denison took a 37-26 halftime lead due to 11Bison turnovers that were converted into 12 DU points.

After halftime, Denison was lights out from the floor, shooting a staggering 65.6 percent (21-32). While Bethany struggled (38 percent) from the field, they also had issues from the foul line, as BC made just 9-of-22 from the charity stripe for the game and the Big Red pulled away for the victory.

The Bison line-up was led by junior guard Anne Wilson (Saegertown, Pa./Cambridge Springs) with 11 points and senior forward Tara Harris (Zanesville, Ohio) with 10 points and five rebounds. Chipping in with seven points apiece off the bench was junior Renee Shepherd (New Martinsville, W.Va./Magnolia), junior Kelly Zogran (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and freshman Skylar Williams (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson).

Bethany will take on John Carroll Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. on the second day of the Classic. The Blue Streaks defeated the host W&J Friday 57-49 in the other game Friday night.
