Feb. 9 - LATROBE, Pa. – The Bethany College women’s basketball team had its four-game road winning streak ended Wednesday with an 85-48 loss at #17 Saint Vincent.

The defeat dropped the Bison’s record to 11-11 overall and 6-7 in the PAC, while the Bearcats improved to 20-2 and 12-1 in the league.

An early 9-0 run by Saint Vincent broke a 5-5 tie and the home team would lead by as many as 13 in the opening stanza. Bison junior Anne Wilson (Saegertown, Pa./Cambridge Springs) cashed in a three-pointer just before the break to bring BC within 10 at 38-28 going into halftime. Bethany was hampered by 31 percent shooting in the first half and 15 turnovers.

The Bearcats’ lead grew to 15 shortly after halftime and SVC would put the game away with a 15-2 spurt midway through the second half. Bethany continued to struggle offensively, as they made just 7-of-31 attempts (23 percent). The Bison did out-rebound Saint Vincent by a 49-42 margin for the game, which included 18 offensive boards.

Bethany had two players reach double figures, as junior Katelynn Hackathorn (Valley Grove, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and Wilson both netted 12. Hackathorn, who scored in double digits for the fifth time in the last six games, also grabbed seven rebounds, but top honors on the glass went to junior Renee Shepherd (New Martinsville, W.Va/Magnolia), who pulled down 11 boards.

For the Bearcats, Brittany Sedlock had a game-high 24, Emily Fenton scored 18 and Caty Kumar chipped in with 12 off the bench.

The Bison will be in action again on Saturday with another ranked opponent, as they host #1 Thomas More at 2 p.m. The unbeaten Saints, improved to 22-0 Wednesday with a 93-65 win over Waynesburg, defeated Bethany 68-42 in their first meeting Jan. 12.
