The Dr. Fred Tilock ‘54 Scholarship Fund to be Awarded
Dr. Tilock was a member of Beta Theta Pi during his years at Bethany and remained active with the fraternity throughout his life. His gift is designated to provide scholarship assistance for children or grandchildren of alumni from any Beta Theta Pi chapter who choose to attend Bethany College. The first scholarship will be offered for the 2009-10 academic year.

A native of Lorain, Ohio, Dr. Tilock followed a well-worn family path to Bethany College shortly after World War II. His  father, Walter Tilock, played football at Bethany, graduated in 1920 and later served on the Board of Trustees. Dr. Tilock’s grandfather, Herbert, graduated from Bethany in the late 1800s. His uncle and namesake, Frederick H. Tilock, Sr., graduated in 1917.

Dr. Tilock graduated from Bethany College in 1954 with a B.S. in Biology and went on to earn his medical degree at Temple University in Philadelphia. He spent more than two decades as a pathologist with the United States Navy and served for 10 years at Tri City Hospital in Oceanside, Calif.

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on need and academic achievement. In order for a student to continue receiving scholarship benefits after his initial grant, he must maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) equal to or higher than the average GPA of all students in the recipient’s class year.
