Bethany College Announces 2014 Oreon E. Scott Lectures
Bethany College has announced Dr. Charisse L. Gillett will deliver the 59th annual Oreon E. Scott Lectures to be held April 28-29, 2014, at Bethany’s Mountainside Conference Center.





Moonbeam Breakfast Held
Bethany College students enjoyed the Moonbeam Breakfast Wednesday night in the Ogden Dining Hall of Benedum Commons. The Student Activities Council and Chartwells sponsored the event.

Students took a break from studying and enjoyed breakfast served by faculty and staff. They also had the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing massage and decorate Christmas bulbs. The Student Alumni Association held a holiday-themed photo booth for students, and the Freshman Class Council held a gingerbread decorating contest.

 

Allison Award Winners Announced
The Advancement Committee of the Alumni Council and the Alumni Office announced the 2013 recipients of the Allison Award during the Moon Beam Breakfast Wednesday. First place was awarded to senior Katherine Warren and second place to junior Emily Miner.

A 500-1000 word original work, titled "What Bethany Means To Me," was required for this year's competition. The total scholarship amount awarded this year totaled $1,500, with $1,000 to first place and $500 to second place.

Presented in memory of the late Bethany Mathematics Professor Jim Allison ‘62, the scholarships were funded by money raised through the Allison's Run. The Allison's run, a recreational, non-competitive event, has been held every year since 2001 during Homecoming to celebrate the life of Allison.

President Miller Recognizes Two Exchange Students
President Scott D. Miller and his wife Annie held a dinner at ChristmanManor Tuesday night in honor of two exchange students from Heidelberg, Germany. Bethany Hires New Athletic Trainer
A Bethany welcome to our new head athletic trainer, Roger Olean (center). He has more than 20 years of experience as an athletic trainer and comes to Bethany after serving the last year at Salem International University. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Allied Health from Slippery Rock University and his Masters degree in Physical Education from Springfield College. He is pictured with Brian Rose, Director of Athletics and Recreation, and Dr. Miller.

 

 


Florida Alumni: Save the Date!
Please save the date as Dr. Miller will be traveling to Florida to meet with Bethany Alumni and Friends at different locations around the state Feb. 8-12, 2014. Event locations and more details will be provided in future issues of the Old Main Journal.

Save the date and join us for Alumni Weekend 2014 slated for May 2-4, 2014. Classes celebrating reunions include 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969 and 1974.

Collas Named ECAC South Co-Swimmer of the Week
Bethany College freshman Jake Collas (South Park, Pa./South Park) has earned the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Division III South Co-Swimmer of the Week award, announced the ECAC on Wednesday.

Women's Hoops Falls To Hiram

The Bethany College women’s basketball team (2-4, 1-1 PAC) erased an 11-point second half deficit, but would eventually fall, 73-60, to Hiram College on Tuesday evening.

Jackson/Naples Named SAAC Athletes of the Week

Bethany College senior Kevin Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook) and sophomore Gabrielle Naples (Salem, Ohio/South Range) have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Week announced the Bethany SAAC on Tuesday.

Eric Blinn Earns D3football.com All-Region Honors

Bethany College sophomore wideout Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) has been named a D3football.com All-South Region Third Team selection announced D3football.com on Monday.

James Named First Team All-Great Lakes Region
Bethany College men’s soccer standout Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) has been named a 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region First-Team selection, announced the NSCAA on Monday.

Men's Basketball Grinds Out 63-61 Win Over Grove City
The Bethany College men’s basketball team overcame an early, 15-point deficit, and held on late to notch their sixth-consecutive victory, a 63-61 decision over Grove City College on Saturday evening.
