Owens ’93 to Address Bethany Kalon Scholarship Candidates
Todd Owens, a non-profit consulting expert and 1993 Bethany graduate, will deliver the keynote address for the 30th Annual Kalon Scholarship Luncheon to be held on Feb. 15.


Communications Students Visit TV Station
Dr. Pat Sutherland's Comm 206 Public Speaking and Announcing class got a behind-the-scenes look at TV news with a visit to WTOV-9 in Steubenville, Ohio.

Students learned about what goes on in every facet of the business, and met with employees from multiple departments including general manager Tim McCoy, news director Don Sloan, along with reporters, salesmen and members of the production team. The students were also in the studio for part of the station's 5 p.m. live newscast.

Freshmen Welcomed Back with J-Term Dance

The winter-themed J-term Ball was held Jan. 18 in Phillips Hall Lounge, and all freshmen were invited to attend. Women were encouraged to wear their prom dresses, and men were asked to dress in formal attire as well.

Bethany President Visits Legendary Alumnus
President Miller visited with Bethanian Dr. Rodney Hurl '52, long-time Trustee and supporter, at his home in Marysville, Ohio, Jan. 17.



Nominations Sought for President’s Awards
Bethany President Scott D. Miller is again seeking nominations from all campus constituencies for the President’s Awards for Excellence in Performance. One will be awarded to a member of the faculty and another to a member of the staff. Recipients will be announced during the annual Honors Day Convocation. Nominations should be sent directly to the President at Office of the President, Bethany College, Old Main, Bethany, WV 26032.


Alumnus Launches Technology Startup
George Davis '78 is once again taking on the title of CEO, this time for Gamma 3 LLC, according to the Johns Hopkins University Engineering website. The company is involved in a hydrogel that shows amazing potential to heal skin wounds in animals and, possibly, humans.

Gamma 3, founded in 2012 to stimulate high-tech business in Baltimore, could have a product for the veterinary market by the end of 2014, Davis said. Read the entire article here.


Bethanian, Sports Announcer Interviewed on MLB Network
Dave Sims '75, who has been the play-by-play broadcaster for the Seattle Mariners for seven years, made an appearance on MLB Network's "Hot Stove." During the interview, Sims discussed the Mariners, what it's like calling multiple no-hitters, and how he came to have an extensive hat collection.

Alumnus Named Partner at Law Firm
Ryan Hemminger '01 was recently named a partner of the Pittsburgh firm Leech Tishman. Ryan practices inthe firm's Litigation Practice Group. Ryan was instrumental in a jury trial resulting in a $2.3 million verdict in a construction contract dispute. 

Bethany Accepting Nominations for Alumnus of the Year Award
The Alumnus of the Year Award was established by the Office of the President to recognize outstanding loyalty and accomplishment by alumni of Bethany College. The award recognizes not one achievement, but is reserved for those who have attained and maintained excellence throughout their career and in their service to others. Nominations should be sent to Office of the President, Bethany College, Old Main, Bethany, WV 26032.


1. Must hold a degree from Bethany College.
2. Must demonstrate outstanding professional accomplishment and personal deeds on behalf of Bethany College.
3. Nominations may come from all constituency groups of the College.
4. Nominations should be made in the form of a formal letter detailing the strengths of the nominee.
5. The Director of Alumni and Parent Relations & President's Cabinet will serve as the screening committee for the award.
6. The President of the College will choose the recipient.

Bethany Alumni Association Now Accepting Nominations for Alumni Awards
The Bethany College Alumni Association is now accepting nominations for the annual Alumni Awards. Award recipients are selected by the Internal Affairs Committee of Alumni Council from nomination forms submitted by alumni and friends of Bethany. Recipients will be honored at a banquet during Alumni Weekend festivities slated for May 2-May 4. Bethany Track & Field Kicks Off Indoor Season at WVU Invite
The Bison track & field program started off in the indoor portion of the 2014 campaign by taking six individuals to the West Virginia University Invitational on Saturday. Of the six athletes that went, all six placed in the top ten in an event, with five of the competitors cracking the top five.

Jackson/Naples Earn SAAC Athlete of the Week Awards

Bethany basketball standouts, senior Kevin Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook) and sophomore Gabrielle Naples (Salem, Ohio/South Range) have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Athletes of the Week, announced the Bethany SAAC on Tuesday.

Alexi Pyles Earns PAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week
Bethany College sophomore standout Alexi Pyles (Los Angeles, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) has been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday.

Women's Swimming & Diving Splits With Saint Vincent and Chatham/Men Fall To Bearcats
The Bethany College women’s swimming & diving team were able to split, beating Chatham 159-99 and falling to Saint Vincent 142-111, while the men’s swimming & diving squad fell to Saint Vincent 128-115.

Men's Basketball Falls Short In Overtime Decision At Thomas More
In an overtime contest that yielded 15 ties and 12 lead changes, the Bethany men’s basketball team (13-4, 6-2 PAC) dropped a 82-74 decision to Thomas More College on Wednesday evening.

Women's Basketball Falls To Thomas More
The Bethany College women’s basketball team (4-12, 3-6 PAC) suffered a defeat at the hands of #5 Thomas More College on Wednesday evening.
