Bethany College Continues to Expand and Upgrade Campus Technology
As part of Bethany College's continuing efforts to bring high quality technology services to the campus community and to students, we are pleased to announce that wireless access will be completed for Campbell Village residence halls during the Thanksgiving break. Upon return to campus, students will enjoy wireless access throughout the Campbell Village complex. In addition to the wireless upgrades, additional network access control is being implemented to provide enhanced management of access to campus computing resources, ensuring more users have appropriate anti-virus protection, system updates, and configurations.   

Fields Leads Forum on Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness

Dr. Darin E. Fields, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, recently attended the Council of Independent Colleges’ Chief Academic Officer's Institute in San Antonio. The Institute focused on the core responsibilities of the chief academic officer and the importance of strong academic leadership in today’s changing higher education environment. Fields led a forum on Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness for new Chief Academic Officers participating in the New CAO workshop.

2013 Girls High Schools FUTSAL Tournament to be Held
The Bethany College Women’s Soccer Program will host on Jan.5-6 the 2013 Girls High School FUTSAL Tournament in the Thomas Phillips Johnson Recreation Center on Bethany’s campus. The tournament is open to all girls’ soccer players in grades 9-12.

The tournament will be played using FUTSAL goals and the lines on the court as boundaries. The tournament will be a six-on-six format and games will last 32 minutes and will have a continuous clock. Each team will be allowed a maximum of 10 girls on the roster. The cost of the tournament is $250 per team.

2nd Annual Light Up Night Announced
The 2nd Annual Light Up Night, the Official kick off to the Holiday Season will be held on November 29, 2012 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Commencement Hall.  Highlights will include educational presentations on the major holidays of the season, pictures with Santa, letter writing to Santa, a choir presentation by the Community Christian Church in Beech Bottom, and charity Christmas Tree Auction.  This year, children’s trees will be raffled off for children under the age of 12.

Visual and Performing Arts
Associate Professor of Theatre Tracie Lynn Duncan was recently nominated for Best Set Design and Best Lighting Design for the 2012 Broadway World Columbus Awards (http://columbus.broadwayworld.com/vote2012region.cfm#sthash.8TsQueVc.dpbs) for her work on the 2012 summer production of King Lear. In addition to the recognition given to Duncan, senior Patrick McGregor II received three nominations, including a nomination in the Person to Watch category.

Duncan is slated to design for the Clockwise Theatre in Waukegan, Ill., a member of the Chicago Area Theatre group, for their upcoming productions of Cars and Quinceaneras by Susan Lieberman and the world premiere of Party in the Kitchen written by Madelyn Sergel.

Alumni Directory Update
Publishing Concepts, Inc (PCI), the company printing the new 2012 Alumni Directory, has informed the College that the directory will now be shipped out to alumni in mid-November.  The Alumni Office sincerely apologizes in the delay, but does not have any control over the change in the delivery date.  Any issues with orders can be handled by calling the customer service line at 1-800-982-1590.  Thank you to all of those alumni that participated in the 2012 Alumni Directory.

Bethany Men Take Opener Over Franciscan 94-46
The Bethany College men’s basketball team overcame a sluggish first half to outscore visiting Franciscan 50-15 in the second half and pull away for a 94-46 triumph Thursday night in the season opener for both teams.

Bethany Swimming Participates In Hour of Power for Charity
On Nov. 13th, the Bethany College men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs joined thousands of athletes across the country in jumping into the pool in support of Carleton College’s Ted Mullin “Leave it in the Pool Hour of Power” Relay.

Bethany’s James Named PAC Player of the Year, Balde Gets 2nd Team
Bethany College junior forward Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was selected as the 2012 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Year and fellow junior forward Lamine Balde (Guinea/William L. Sayre) was named Second Team All-PAC by the coaches of the conference.

Bison Seniors Earn All-PAC Women’s Soccer Honors
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) announced its 2012 All-PAC women’s soccer selections Wednesday, which included three Bethany College players who were recognized. All three Bison honored were seniors, part of the seven-person senior class that played their final season for BC this year

Youthful Bethany Squad Looking Forward to New Season
The 2012-13 season will feature a far different looking team on the hardwood when the Bethany College women’s basketball team opens the year at Wilmington (Ohio) College Tournament against the host school Nov. 16th.

Bison Men Appear Primed for Big Season
The Bethany College men’s basketball team, with five of its top six scorers returning from last year’s PAC Championship team, appear primed and ready to make another run at a conference championship with the additional goal of making a run into the NCAA Tournament.

Twelve Bison Honored with All-PAC Accolades
Twelve Bethany College football players earned their way onto All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) teams that were announced Monday following voting by the league coaches.

Bethany Earns Three-Peat as ECAC South Volleyball Champions
By defeating Cabrini (Pa.) College in the semifinals and Moravian (Pa.) College in the final match Saturday at Hummel Field House, the top-seeded Bethany College volleyball team captured its third consecutive ECAC South Region Tournament title and sent its winningest senior class in program history out as champions.

Records Fall as Bison Rout Saint Vincent in Season Finale
Numerous single-season records were broken Saturday, as the Bethany College football team finished the 2012 season on a high note by defeating Saint Vincent 54-27 at sunny Bison Stadium.

Bison Women Set Relay Record in PAC Meet at Westminster
The Bethany College women's swimming and diving team broke its second relay record of the season Saturday as the Bison began its PAC schedule at Westminster.
