Play4Kay Fundraiser Event Held at Bethany
For the fifth consecutive year, the Bethany women's basketball program participated in the WBCA's Play 4Kay event. It's a nation-wide effort that joins hundreds of basketball programs to raise funds and awareness in the battle against cancer. The basketball program partnered with the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, whose philanthropy is the Susan G. Komen For the Cure, to raffle off two gift bags, gift cards, t-shirst, bracelets, rally towels and keychains. By the end of the night, their efforts helped raise $743, but it's not too late to give. If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt and/or making a donation, please contact head women's basketball coach Rebecca Upton at rupton@bethanywv.edu or 304-829-7267.

High-Performance Computer Contest Offers Cash Prizes to Students
West Virginia High-Performance Computational Resources will award cash prizes in a competition open to West Virginia undergraduate students during spring 2012, according to a promotional announcement by the program.

Students or student teams will be challenged to find “novel, innovative and effective uses” of High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources. They “will submit a brief abstract detailing how they used HPC tools to solve a problem by using computations that are not practical without the power of HPC.”

One first-place prize of $1,000 and one second-place prize of $500 will be awarded in this competition.

The application deadline is February 29, 2012; the submission deadline is April 1, 2012. Complete rules and contest details are available at www.wvhpcr.com.

High-Performance Computing is the use of supercomputers or clusters of computers to solve difficult computational problems arising from scientific research.

West Virginia High Performance Computational Resources is an initiative of the WVEPSCoR RII High Performance Computing Training Support Program. Its mission is “preparing West Virginia’s future workforce in High Performance Computing by working with West Virginia’s primarily undergraduate institutions to provide awareness, advice, training, and assistance with incorporating HPC tools in their curriculum.”

Dr. David Rudari and Ms. Sun Jung Lee of the Music Faculty will present a recital at St. Joseph Cathedral, Eoff and 13th Streets, Wheeling, WV on Sunday, 19 February, 2012 at 3.00 p.m.  Featured artist will be Mr. Casey Gray, Tenor  (Bethany Class of 2009).   Repertoire will be from the works of Handel, Teleman, Schubert, Verdi, Ravel, Puccini, and Bizet.

The recital is open to the public, and is part of the Cathedral's Stained Glass Series.  There is no admission charge, but there is a free-will donation suggested for the benefit of the Eighteenth Street Center.  Questions may be sent to Dr. Rudari via e-mail drudari@bethanywv.edu.

Associate Professor of Theatre and Director of Technical Theatre, Tracie Lynn Duncan, in her role as a member of New Players Theater in Columbus, OH will be presenting: Mark Twain's THE DIARIES OF ADAM AND EVE, staring NPT company members, award winning actors, and real-life sweethearts Mark Mann and Danielle Mann.
The Diaries of Adam and Eve is based on EXTRACTS FROM ADAM’S DIARY (1904) and EVE’S DIARY (1906). Twain’s own unique take on the Creation Story shows us that, as Shakespeare said, “the course of true love never did run smooth”. The production will be held on Valentine's Day, February 14 at 7:00 pm during dinner at Café Bella, 2593 N. High St.

Ms. Duncan serves as New Players Production Designer and Technical Director, in addition to serving on the artistic board.
