Bethany College Announces 2012 Holiday Schedule
Bethany College’s administrative offices will close for the holiday break at the close of business on Friday, Dec. 21. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Bethany President Tabbed As WVICU Legislative Affairs Co-Chair
President Miller has been tabbed as Co-Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee of Charleston-based West Virginia Independent Colleges and Universities (WVICU). A member of the WVICU Board of Directors, he currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board.


Bethany to Support Beta Theta Pi with Previdi Memorial Scholarship
In response to the sorrowful loss of Caroline Previdi, daughter of alumnus Jeff Previdi ’94, during the senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School last Friday, Bethany College is supporting Beta Theta Pi in the establishment of the Caroline Previdi of Sandy Hook Elementary Memorial Scholarship. This endowment will ensure Caroline will be remembered in a positive way by providing annual scholarships to worthy students who are majoring in Education.

Nominations Sought for President’s Awards
Bethany President Scott D. Miller is again seeking nominations from all campus constituencies for the President’s Awards for Excellence in Performance. One will be awarded to a member of the faculty and another to a member of the staff. Recipients will be announced during the annual Honors Day Convocation. Nominations should be sent directly to the President at President’s Office, Bethany College, Bethany, WV 26032.

2013 Girls High Schools FUTSAL Tournament to be Held
The Bethany College Women’s Soccer Program will host on Jan.5-6 the 2013 Girls High School FUTSAL Tournament in the Thomas Phillips Johnson Recreation Center on Bethany’s campus. The tournament is open to all girls’ soccer players in grades 9-12.

The tournament will be played using FUTSAL goals and the lines on the court as boundaries. The tournament will be a six-on-six format and games will last 32 minutes and will have a continuous clock. Each team will be allowed a maximum of 10 girls on the roster. The cost of the tournament is $250 per team.

Nola ’75 Sets Pennsylvania High School Football Records
The Clairton High School football team, coached by Bethany alum and Beta Theta Pi member Tom Nola ’75, recently won its fourth-consecutive state title. The team also set the record for most consecutive wins, 63, in the history of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition, they are the high school with the most consecutive wins in the entire country.

Brownlee ’06 Moderates Title Game Press Conference
2006 Bethany graduate Ben Brownlee served as post-game press conference moderator for the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl XL, the NCAA DIII football national championship. Brownlee, who served as PAC Assistant Director in 2006-07, is currently the Associate Commissioner of the NCAA Division II West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). The former Bison swimmer, also currently serves on the NCAA Division II swimming & diving national committee.

Bethany Accepting Nominations for Alumnus of the Year Award
The Alumnus of the Year Award was established by the Office of the President to recognize outstanding loyalty and accomplishment by alumni of Bethany College. The award recognizes not one achievement, but is reserved for those who have attained and maintained excellence throughout their career and in their service to others.
Criteria/selection:

  1. Must hold a degree from Bethany College.
  2. Must demonstrate outstanding professional accomplishment and personal deeds on behalf of Bethany College.
  3. Nominations may come from all constituency groups of the College.  Nominations should be sent to:

  1. Nominations should be made in the form of a formal letter detailing the strengths of the nominee.
  2. The Director of Alumni and Parent Relations & President's Cabinet will serve as the screening committee for the award.
  3. The President of the College will choose the recipient.

PAC Selects Bethany’s Wilcox as Player of the Week
Senior Nick Wilcox (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), who recorded two double-doubles in leading the Bethany College men’s basketball team to wins over Frostburg State and Olivet, was tabbed as this week’s PAC Player of the Week.

Bethany Rallies Late to Pull Out 63-59 Win over Olivet
Trailing by three points with five minutes to play, the Bethany College men’s basketball team closed the game with a 10-3 run to pull out a 63-59 victory over visiting Olivet (Mich.) College Saturday night in the Bison’s final game before the holiday break.

Bethany Drops 64-61 Decision to Hiram
Despite shooting a season-best 48 percent from the floor and a career-high 27 points from senior Kayla Taormina (Center Twp., Pa./Quigley), the Bethany College women’s basketball team fell by a 64-61 count Saturday afternoon to visiting Hiram.

Bethany’s Harrison Finishes as DIII Leader in Saves Per Game
Bethany College freshman Jackie Harrison (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) finished her first season as the starting goalie for the Bison field hockey team as the Division III leader in saves per game.
