of Education Hosts Fifth Annual ‘Fun Day’
The Bethany College Department of Education
hosted its fifth annual ‘Fun Day’ for area children
with disabilities on Wednesday, April 30. Bethany students from
all majors, housing units and athletic teams pitched in to work
with more than 200 elementary-age children from neighboring
school districts in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The children, who are coping with a wide
range of disabilities including Down syndrome, autism, cerebral
palsy, mental impairments and behavioral disorders, enjoyed
a day of developmentally appropriate activities and interactive
stations set up in the Thomas P. Johnson Recreation Center and
Hummel Field House.
“This great service learning project
was started five years ago by a group of Education seniors hoping
to make a difference in the community,” said Department
of Education Chair Dr. Keely Camden. “It has grown and
expanded each year as our community outreach and school partnerships
have grown and expanded.”
