[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College introduced a virtual opportunity for prospective students who want to visit campus even as COVID-19 and social distancing measures prevent doing so by traditional methods.

Students can schedule a phone call or a video chat using either Skype or FaceTime with one of Bethany’s enrollment counselors.

All first-time visitors to the college using the virtual option will receive a $1,000 grant for each of their four years at Bethany College.

“A visit to Bethany College in the spring is like nothing else with the lush green, rolling hills, the sound of athletic contests echoing across the campus, and buds on the trees just starting to blossom,” said Karen Hunt, vice president for enrollment. “Through the decades, countless numbers of students have experienced taking that first walk through the campus and falling in love with Bethany.”

Until then, however, visitors can take a look at the campus and hear from students and faculty on what Bethany has to offer through a series of videos posted on the college admissions site.

With high schools across the country physically closed, Bethany is also streamlining its application process for those seeking admission in the fall.

Bethany will continue to accept and review applications for the fall semester into the summer months and will allow students to self-report their high school grade point averages. The deadline for deposits was moved to June 1; however, students and their families are encouraged to remit their deposit as soon as they are able.

The FAFSA will still be used to determine financial aid packages. Students who have received their financial aid package but are experiencing financial hardships as a result of COVID-19 should contact the college at [obfuscate_btn]financialaid@bethanywv.edu.[/obfuscate_btn]

“The Bethany College community is like a family,” Hunt said. “And family takes care of family. We are here to help take care of prospective students as they go through their college search during a challenging season.”

The admissions shift follows other recent operational changes at Bethany because of COVID-19.

The college announced on March 12 that it would extend its spring break by one week and return with remote instruction on March 23. Many faculty and staff are also working remotely.

As “shelter in place” orders became more widespread in the region, the college announced March 27 that classes would remain online for the remainder of the semester.
