BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College education students received early field experience this fall as they assisted Ohio County schoolchildren at the Wheeling YMCA.
Bethany students Tatyana Banks, Hallie Glass, Katelin Hart, Christian Kampas, Samantha Mathis, Taylor Naples, Evan Wachter, and Christopher Williams began visiting the Y in mid-September, typically on Wednesdays, to offer games and activities and assistance on school assignments. Some of the students offered tutoring in reading.
The YMCA offered the program for kindergartners through sixth graders on days when Ohio County Schools shifted to remote learning.
The Y gave participating students a T-shirt to show their appreciation for Bethany’s assistance.
Bethany Mayor Shirley Kemp also recognized nine education students for their participation the town’s trick-or-treat and fall festival.
Elizabeth Booth, Jaime Cunningham, Hallie Glass, Katelin Hart, Christian Kampas, Taylor Naples, Dante Mejia, Christopher Williams, and Hanna Williams set up games and activities at the Bethany Town Square.
Kemp presented each student with a certificate of appreciation.
