BETHANY, W.Va. — New life is being given to one of Bethany College’s former residence halls. The Board of Trustees has approved an estimated one-million-dollar remodel to Harlan Hall. Now, starting in the Fall of 2023, 58 freshmen will call the newly renovated building home again.
Harlan Hall, constructed in 1960, was made possible by a gift from C. Allen Harlan. Now, with Bethany’s growing enrollment, school officials believe renovating the hall is important for its future.
“Harlan Hall is a building with great bones,” says Vice President and Dean of Students Jerry Stebbins. “– and it sits at the heart of campus. I am excited to see an increase in the hustle and bustle there, and for there to be more student life spaces on campus.”
With a prime location, students housed in Harlan Hall can expect quick commutes to academic buildings and facilities around campus. Morlan Hall, which houses “The Hub” and Starbucks Coffee, is just steps away from Harlan’s front door.
The revamped communal-style residence hall will feature large double rooms, with modern furniture, new carpet, and updated paint. To maximize the student living experience, Harlan will also add new student-centric spaces and lounges. For a home-away-from-home feel, there will be an addition of a game room in the basement and a coffee nook on the ground floor.
Renovations at Harlan Hall will tentatively conclude in early August, and will be ready for residents by fall move-in.
