Theatre Overview & Goals

The Bethany College Theatre program presents a unique preparation for professional opportunities within the Performing Arts and beyond. The size of our school guarantees personalized attention and frequent chances to perform. Our program animates the liberal arts traditions of critical thought, pursuit of truth, and excellence. Successful completion of the courses will provide the student the ability to contextualize wisely, apply various techniques to performance, and most importantly, develop skills enabling life-long growth.

Classroom work combines acquiring knowledge of the cultural significance of theatre with physical, visual, literary, and vocal methods of expression. The mainstage performance season prides itself on daring to do plays people should see rather than the merely popular. In addition to departmentally produced plays, students receive full support in self-generated productions.

Many graduates pursue further training at the graduate level, or have attained success in related careers. Others have initiated their own projects/theatres. Several have become theatre educators or artistic directors. And one has won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony, and a Golden Globe Award.
