BETHANY, W.Va. (Oct. 9, 2024) – Bethany College is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s prestigious Alumni Awards, who will be celebrated during Homecoming Weekend. These distinguished individuals have made a meaningful impact through their dedication and hard work, shaping not only their professions but also the communities they serve. Their accomplishments reflect the core values of Bethany College and exemplify the spirit of excellence, leadership, and service that defines our graduates.

“At Bethany, we take immense pride in the achievements of our alumni. Their success is a testament to the transformative education they received here, and their commitment to making a positive difference in the world,” said Dr. Jamie Caridi, President of Bethany College. “We are honored to celebrate these accomplished graduates, whose contributions inspire us all and serve as a powerful reminder of the strength of the Bethany community.”

David Eugene McConahy ‘87 and Elizabeth Wells McIlvain ‘77 have been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, which honors alumni for their exceptional contributions to their professions and fields.

David McConahy headshotMcConahy has been recognized for his significant influence in the real estate appraisal industry. With a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany, he launched his career at Nicklas, King, and Company, where he advanced to become a partner and led the firm’s transformation into Nicklas, King, McConahy. His attainment of the Member of Appraisal Institute designation in 1996 demonstrates his expertise and commitment to excellence. With multiple state licenses and certifications, McConahy’s broad qualifications reflect his leadership in the field, and his achievements continue to set a high standard in the industry.

McIlvain headshotMcIlvain has been honored for her outstanding leadership as the first female President and CEO of The Fiesta Tableware Company (FTC). Under her guidance, FTC has continued to flourish and remain a key employer in the Ohio River Valley. Her strategic decisions, including the sale of the food service division, have positioned FTC for long-term success. McIlvain’s commitment to the company and her philanthropic efforts in the community showcase her dedication to making a lasting impact.

rev. Tim Bobbit headshotRev. Tim Bobbitt ‘92 has been named the recipient of the Community Service Award. Throughout his career, Rev. Bobbitt has exemplified selfless service to others, both in his professional roles and through extensive volunteer work. His dedication includes leading pastoral care in churches across the U.S. and Latin America, founding food pantries, and supporting refugee resettlement programs. He has also worked with at-risk youth, provided disaster relief, and engaged in numerous ecumenical ministries. His lifelong dedication to helping others embodies the spirit of Bethany College, making him a truly deserving honoree.

Rileys picture Robert ‘67 and Georgiana Riley ’71 have been awarded the Distinguished Service to Alma Mater Award in recognition of their exceptional support and longstanding commitment to Bethany College. Robert’s varied roles, from athletic trainer to director of admissions and educator, have enriched the College’s community, while Georgiana’s leadership as a trustee has been instrumental in advancing Bethany’s mission. Serving as Chair of the Advancement Committee for the Board of Trustees, Georgiana has helped guide the College’s fundraising and development initiatives, ensuring Bethany’s continued growth and success. Together, the Rileys’ philanthropy, including funding the Georgiana N. ‘71 & Robert F. ‘67 Riley, Jr. Fitness Center at the Field House and underwriting scholarships for local students, exemplifies their deep devotion to Bethany and its future. The Rileys’ ongoing generosity and mentorship continue to have a lasting impact on the College community.

The award recipients will be honored at the Alumni Celebration Dinner in Commencement Hall on Friday, Oct. 11, a highlight of Homecoming Weekend. This celebration serves as a moment to reflect on the remarkable accomplishments of Bethany’s alumni and express gratitude for their ongoing support, which continues to inspire future generations and strengthen the College’s legacy.
