BETHANY, W.Va. (Oct. 23, 2024) – Bethany College is proud to announce the 2024 Hall of Fame class, honoring nine outstanding individuals whose achievements have significantly contributed to the College’s rich athletic tradition. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 1, in Commencement Hall. The evening is slated to begin with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The induction ceremony will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
“Bethany’s Hall of Fame is an important reminder to our current student-athletes and campus community that greatness is in all of us at some level,” says Interim Athletic Director Jen Windmiller. “When we commit ourselves to a culture of excellence, we can leave our own legacy amongst a rich history of Bethanians. I’m elated to hear this class’ stories and learn about the impact that Bethany College had on them throughout their lives.”
The following members will be inducted:
Dana Culbert ’06 – Swimming
Culbert remains one of the most decorated swimmers in Bison history, holding school records in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. A four-year letterwinner and team MVP, Culbert was also part of the school’s record-setting 400-yard freestyle relay team and was named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) 60th Anniversary Women’s Swimming and Diving Team.
Jina Skinner DeRubbo – Women’s Basketball
As head coach of the Bison women’s basketball program for seven seasons, DeRubbo earned PAC Coach of the Year honors four times. She led the Bison to five PAC championships and four NCAA tournament appearances, with her 131 career victories remaining the most of any coach in the history of the women’s basketball program.
Brody Jackson ’08 – Men’s Basketball
Jackson was named the 2007-08 PAC Player of the Year and appeared in postseason play in each of his four years. A two-time All-PAC honoree, he also received NABC All-District, D3Hoops All-Region, and ECAC All-Southern Region honors. In his senior year, Jackson was named ECAC Southern Region Co-Player of the Year.
Debbie Scheirer McKinney ’80 – Field Hockey
McKinney played a pivotal role in the success of Bethany’s field hockey program, helping secure multiple Pennwood West Conference championships. She held numerous school records, many of which were later surpassed by Bethany Hall of Famer Eileen Reading.
Thomas Reabe ’83 – Football/Baseball
Reabe was a key figure on the undefeated 1980 PAC championship football team, which advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. A four-year starter and two-time All-PAC honoree, Reabe also served as team captain and was named to the Pittsburgh Press All-District team. His athletic achievements extended to baseball, where he was a two-time All-PAC selection.
Larry Sadler ’73 – Baseball
Sadler was a member of the 1970 Bethany baseball team that captured the PAC championship under the guidance of legendary coach Bob Goin. He was named All-PAC as a first baseman in 1971.
Mark Sniegocki ’79 (Posthumously) – Football
Sniegocki still holds Bethany’s record for career field goals (18) and single-season field goals (11), a mark he set in 1976.
Mary Mazero Wyrick ’84 – Volleyball
A standout on the 1981 Pennwood West Conference championship volleyball team, Wyrick earned all-conference honors in each of her four seasons, receiving MVP recognition on multiple occasions.
Michael Yonover ’00 – Baseball
Yonover was a key member of three PAC championship baseball teams, including the 1996 squad that went undefeated in conference play and led NCAA Division III with a .401 team batting average. He earned Second Team All-PAC honors in 1999.
The 2024 Bethany College Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony promises to be a memorable evening, celebrating the lasting impact of these remarkable athletes and coaches on the College’s athletic legacy. Tickets for the event are available online, with adult tickets priced at $50 and children’s tickets (under 12) at $15. Registration will remain open until Oct. 27.
