Bethany College Baccalaureate Ceremony Honors Class of 2024

BETHANY, W.Va.– Bethany College celebrated its 184th baccalaureate ceremony on Friday, May 10, with an inspiring message delivered by Rev. Dr. Todd Adams. The event, held in Commencement Hall, honored the graduating Class of 2024 amidst a backdrop of tradition, resilience, and anticipation for the impact these graduates will make in the world.

Bethany President Dr. Jamie Caridi welcomed attendees to the ceremony, recognizing the unique resilience and accomplishments of the Class of 2024. Emphasizing the transformative power of a Bethany education, Caridi commended the graduates for their perseverance, intellectual engagement, and commitment to service, urging them to carry forward the values instilled during their time at Bethany. He then introduced the evening’s speaker, Adams, the president and chief executive officer of the Pension Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a member of Bethany’s Board of Trustees.

In his moving speech titled “From the Mountain with Love,” Adams drew from the timeless wisdom of 1 Corinthians:13, urging graduates to lead with love as they embark on their post-graduation journey. Reflecting on the power of love, Adams stated, “Love is not just a feeling; it’s a force that can move mountains and bridge divides. It’s what the world needs now more than ever.”

Adam’s words resonated deeply with the audience as he shared personal anecdotes and experiences that underscored the importance of cultivating love in all aspects of life. “As you prepare to leave this mountain,” Adams remarked, “remember that love is not merely a sentiment, but a guiding principle that can shape your interactions, decisions, and contributions to the world.”

Drawing parallels between his own journey and that of the graduates, Adam’s emphasized the enduring significance of love in overcoming adversity and fostering meaningful connections. “In times of uncertainty and turmoil, it is love that sustains us and gives us the strength to persevere,” he said. “As you venture into the world, let love be your compass, guiding you towards empathy, compassion, and understanding.”

As they prepare to leave the mountain and follow their respective trails, the Class of 2024 carries with them the message of love as a force for good in the world.
