To end the 2023 fall semester, Bethany College held its annual Light Up Night celebration on Thursday, Nov. 30. Light Up Night is a beloved Bethany tradition that spreads holiday cheer and raises funds for a local charity. This year, the event raised $3,166 for Bernie’s Kids Foundation of Brooke County.
Bernie’s Kids is a charity organization, in honor of the late Brooke County Sheriff and Commissioner Bernie Kazienko, that gives the area’s less fortunate children a memorable Christmas. Bethany College has partnered with this charity for many years to raise funds through the Light Up Night Celebration.
Student organizations and College departments created various themed trees and wreaths that were auctioned off live. The trees and wreaths were also decorated with items such as gift cards, food, and other valuables.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends attended the festivities at no cost and enjoyed refreshments and light snacks.
To end the night, Santa made a surprise appearance and greeted the children.
