BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College Theatre program will continue their 2016-2017 season with Craig Lucas’ dark comedy, Reckless. Directed by Luke Hardt, Associate Professor of Theatre and Director of the Bethany College Theatre, evening performances begin at 8 p.m. on Nov. 10-12, along with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 13 in Wailes Theatre.
Reckless tells the roller coaster tale of a woman’s journey after being forced from her home on Christmas Eve. Throughout this journey, she encounters strange individuals and bizarre events that will keep the audience guessing what is going to happen next.
“This show is oh-so amazingly good! It’s funny, sad, thought-provoking, relevant – just incredible to me that it’s not better known,” said Hardt. “So, if you haven’t tried a live play in a while or ever, this is the kind of play that shows how great live theatre can be.”
The cast of characters begins with Rachel played by Taylor Ferko (Munhall, Pennsylvania). Max Hardt (Bethany, West Virginia) plays Tom and Man in Mask, and Tom Jr. Lloyd is played by Elias Stebbins (Washington, Pennsylvania). Pooty is played by Kirstin Smith (Martins Ferry, Ohio). Mike Lyons (Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania) plays Roy and 1st Derelict.
Toshia Rush (Bedford, Pennsylvania) plays Trish and Sue, while Ashley Taylor (Wakeman, Ohio) plays 1st, 4th and 6th Doctors, as well as the Receptionist. Rev. Scott Thayer, Bethany College Chaplain, plays Tim Timko – the Talk Show Host.
The 2nd and 5th Doctors as well as the Woman Patient are played by Katie Campbell (Emmitsburg, Maryland). The 3rd Doctor and 2nd Derelict are played by Kerry Kerr (Atlanta, Georgia).
The production staff includes John Sadar, Dan Crowell, Stefan Simmons, Mike Lyons, Max Hardt, Samra Cooke and Jordan Moore.
“We’ve got a really strong cast and crew, now all we need is a big audience,” Hardt concluded.
Admission for the performances is free, but donations are accepted. In addition, Bethany Theatre will be collecting Christmas items for the YWCA-Family Violence Prevention Center. Suggested donation items include: Bath and Body Works, makeup, gloves, scarves, slippers, gift cards for Kroger’s or Walmart, adult coloring books, Ohio Valley Mall gift cards, Game Stop gift cards, socks, hoodies, ball hats, American Eagle gift cards, wallets and I-Tunes gift cards.
