BETHANY, W. Va. (Sept. 24, 2024) – Bethany College proudly announces the installation of a unique outdoor seating area, the Bison Bench. This new seating area not only offers a place of rest and reflection for students, faculty, and visitors but also serves as a symbolic link to the College’s rich history and ongoing commitment to student success.

Bison outdoor seatingDann Kidd, a renowned chainsaw sculptor and owner of Conotton Creek Woodworks, was commissioned to bring the space to life. Over four days in Aug., Kidd carved the Bison Bench, which now overlooks the future site of the Living Memorial Daffodil Garden, a central part of the College’s Daffodil Project.

The installation of the Bison Bench is closely linked to the Daffodil Project, an initiative that began in Fall of 2022. This project aims to beautify the campus while also supporting the Career Center’s Student Housing Internship Program (SHIP), which helps students with expenses related to internships, such as housing and transportation. Since its inception, the program has provided critical support to 18 students, covering half of their housing costs during the summers of 2023 and 2024.

There are several ways for the Bethany community and alumni to participate in the Daffodil Project. Donations can be made to plant daffodils on campus in celebration of special occasions or in memory of a loved one. Donors can choose where to plant the bulbs, including areas like Greek Hill, the Recreation Center, or the newly established Living Memorial Daffodil Garden. Alternatively, donors can opt to have five bulbs mailed to their home, along with a commemorative Daffodil Project T-shirt, allowing them to celebrate the spirit of Bethany while contributing to the beautification of their own surroundings.

A special thank you is extended to the Psi Chapter Diamond Association Charitable Foundation for their generous grant supporting the Daffodil Project. This contribution enabled the Career Center to purchase Daffodil Project logo T-shirts, furthering the initiative’s reach.

As the Bison Bench becomes a new gathering spot, Bethany College continues to honor its traditions while nurturing the growth of future generations. The College invites everyone to be part of this blooming legacy by supporting the Daffodil Project and enjoying the serene beauty of campus.

Join us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 2 to 2:15 p.m., as we celebrate the opening of our newest addition to campus.
