Bethany College Announces Donald J. Blashford ‘76 as Fall Convocation Speaker

BETHANY, W.Va. (Aug. 27, 2024) – Bethany College is proud to announce that Donald J. Blashford ‘76, distinguished alumnus and acclaimed advertising executive, will be the keynote speaker for this year’s Fall Convocation.

A Bethany graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications, Blashford has achieved remarkable success in the advertising industry. His ascent to the role of executive vice president and worldwide account director at Publicis Worldwide highlights the values of excellence and leadership that Bethany holds dear.

Blashford’s time at Bethany was marked by his significant contributions both as a student and an athlete. As a four-year letterman on the three-time PAC championship men’s soccer team, he demonstrated the dedication and teamwork that have become hallmarks of his professional career. His active involvement in campus organizations and ongoing engagement with alumni development earned him a place in Bethany’s Communications Hall of Fame.

Throughout his career, Blashford has been instrumental in launching groundbreaking global campaigns and developing integrated marketing communications for some of the world’s most prominent brands. His leadership on the UBS Financial Services account, including the launch of the acclaimed “You & Us” campaign, and his work with AXA and Capital One, showcase his expertise and innovation in the field. His achievements, such as the award-winning “What’s in Your Wallet” campaign, accentuate his influence and achievements in advertising.

Taking place on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m., Fall Convocation will be a celebration of Bethany’s rich traditions and a moment to reflect on the achievements of our current students and alumni. Blashford’s address will offer valuable insights into leadership, creativity, and the power of a Bethany education.
